The anterior vagal trunk, formed primarily from fibers of the left vagus nerve in the esophageal plexus, passes through the esophageal hiatus of the diaphragm to supply the anterior surface of the stomach. It also sends a hepatic branch, which travels within the lesser omentum to reach the liver.
