Synovial Joints - Subclassifications

There are six subclassifications of synovial joints based on their structure and how much movement they allow. In order from the least amount of movement to the most amount of movement allowed they are:

  1. plane joints
  2. hinge joints
  3. pivot joints
  4. condyloid joints
  5. saddle joints
  6. ball and socket joints

We will discuss each subclass of the synovial joints and give examples in the next several screens.
