Synovial Joints-Pivot Joints

Pivot (a.k.a. trochoidal) joints are also uniaxial joints. They allow rotary movement around one axis that is longitudinal through the bone. In this type of joint, a process of one bone rotates in a ring formed by the other bone and a ligament. Examples of pivot joints are:

  1. Proximal radioulnar joint
  2. Atlas-axis joint (the joint between the first and second cervical vertebrae)
