Finger Abduction and Adduction

Abduction of the digits of the hand is defined as moving away from the midline of the hand, which is the middle digit. Abduction, then, spreads the fingers.

Muscles: dorsal interossei.

Adduction of the fingers returns them toward the midline, or the middle finger. This brings the fingers together.

Muscles: palmar interossei.
