| As the stomach grows during the fourth week of development, the dorsal surface grows faster than the ventral surface. Consequently, the dorsal surface gives rise to the greater curvature and the ventral surface gives rise to the lesser curvature. The original dorsal and ventral surfaces of the stomach are associated with a dorsal and ventral mesentery (mesogastrium) throughout their development. | ![]() |
